Abstract

Objectif : Examiner le stress et les effets psychologiques chez les patients du syndrome respiratoire aigu sévère (SRAS) durant l'épidémie de 2003. Le SRAS est une nouvelle pneumonie très contagieuse, et ses effets psychologiques sont encore mal définis. Méthode : Au sommet de l'épidémie, les patients du SRAS (n = 79) et des sujets témoins en santé (n = 145) ont rempli l'échelle du stress perçu (PSS) et documenté une série de réactions psychologiques. Les groupes étaient assortis selon l'âge, le sexe, le niveau d'instruction et les conditions de vie. Résultats : Le stress était significativement plus élevé chez les patients du SRAS que chez les sujets témoins de santé. Il y avait une corrélation significative entre le stress et les effets psychologiques négatifs. Chez les patients du SRAS, 39% (n = 30) étaient des fournisseurs de soins de santé infectés; ces personnes déclaraient significativement plus de fatigue et de soucis à propos de leur santé que les autres patients. Parmi les patients, 25 % (n = 20) ont demandé un suivi psychologique. Conclusions : Le stress général et les effets psychologiques négatifs sont accentués chez les patients du SRAS, en particulier parmi les fournisseurs de soins de santé infectés. Cela peut augmenter le risque de troubles de l'humeur ou de troubles liés au stress. La déficience fonctionnelle est apparente dans la phase d'après-rétablissement.

<div type="abstract" xml:lang="fr">Objectif : Examiner le stress et les effets psychologiques chez les patients du syndrome respiratoire aigu sévère (SRAS) durant l'épidémie de 2003. Le SRAS est une nouvelle pneumonie très contagieuse, et ses effets psychologiques sont encore mal définis. Méthode : Au sommet de l'épidémie, les patients du SRAS (n = 79) et des sujets témoins en santé (n = 145) ont rempli l'échelle du stress perçu (PSS) et documenté une série de réactions psychologiques. Les groupes étaient assortis selon l'âge, le sexe, le niveau d'instruction et les conditions de vie. Résultats : Le stress était significativement plus élevé chez les patients du SRAS que chez les sujets témoins de santé. Il y avait une corrélation significative entre le stress et les effets psychologiques négatifs. Chez les patients du SRAS, 39% (n = 30) étaient des fournisseurs de soins de santé infectés; ces personnes déclaraient significativement plus de fatigue et de soucis à propos de leur santé que les autres patients. Parmi les patients, 25 % (n = 20) ont demandé un suivi psychologique. Conclusions : Le stress général et les effets psychologiques négatifs sont accentués chez les patients du SRAS, en particulier parmi les fournisseurs de soins de santé infectés. Cela peut augmenter le risque de troubles de l'humeur ou de troubles liés au stress. La déficience fonctionnelle est apparente dans la phase d'après-rétablissement.</div>
